Our Charity. Our Community.
Without family nothing else matters, everything from the top to bottom falls apart or descends into chaos… the loss of home leaves a gap that can never be filled
What We Do
Snehasadan is a non-governmental organization that provides a home and a future for homeless street children in Mumbai, India. Over the past 58 years, Snehasadan has been providing shelter for over 30.000 children. These homes have given them a chance to escape life on the streets, gain access to shelter, education, and a future, and above all find a home and a family where before there was none.
Our Story
The beginnings were small and hesitant. The first house of Snehasadan began in a make-shift hut at Kajuwadi in Chakala, Andheri with just five boys, who all ran away after the very first night. But as word went around and Snehasadan too got better known, other children came. The home stabilised and expanded and soon another house was needed.

To be a home for homeless children, regardless of caste or creed, provide a shelter for the numberless homeless orphans, waifs, destitute and delinquents who roam almost every quarter of Mumbai.
Snehasadan’s aim is to reach out to the homeless children, find out what were the reasons for which they are on the streets, trace their families and reunite them with their families wherever possible. Where family tracing is not possible, or the children are orphans, Snehasadan becomes their home and provides them with the environment for holistic growth and development.
Education is the ladder for the underprivileged to improve not only their economy but also their social status. Hence every possible opportunity is provided to the children to avail of formal or nonformal education.
Professional courses like engineering, nursing, lab technicians, management, animation, teacher training, etc. are provided to those who have the aptitude and inclination for the same.
Helping Children All Over the World
Each center essentially is just a small room, as most of the staff time is spent in the field, working with individual children. Snehasadan employs trained social work staff. They work with the community to identify homeless children, work towards family repatriation, counselling and finding a foster home at Snehasadan if the homeless child does so choose.
You’re Important to Us
Their history is unique and as such the Snehasadan social workers treat each child on a case by case basis. When a new child arrives at a railway station, most of the permanent station dwellers will inform the new child about Snehasadan. Railway staff also work in conjunction with Snehasadan in providing information to and on vulnerable children.
Become a Volunteer Today
A few hours a week of your time can go a long way in helping our children to not only cope up with their studies but to also excel. Many of our children have a weak foundation in some subjects due to having missed out on some years of schooling.
